Muncy-Ratcliff Studios was formed by Judith Muncy and Philippa Ratcliff in 2001 as Tabbit Designs, with the idea of creating unique and beautiful pieces of wearable art.
Judie studied interior design before turning to jewelry. She brings a savvy sense of color to her jewelry creations, gained from her previous experience with fabric and stained glass. Selecting unusual combinations of stones and metals to create beautiful works of art, Judie favors warm earthtones and deep, vivid colors in her designs. She loves angular shapes, big, bold pieces, and never met a straight line she didn't like.
Philippa comes from a graphic design background with training in industrial arts and is most at home at her bench with her tools. She loves working with metal and stone and is particularly drawn to ethnic and cultural symbolism, which features heavily in her work.
We hand select each stone and bead used in our work. Our raw materials come from a wide variety of local and international sources. Metal pieces are fabricated from solid brass, copper, and fine and sterling silver. We use some commercially purchased findings in our pieces, primarily clasps and fasteners, both 12K and 14K gold-filled and sterling silver.
All of our jewelry is designed, hand-fabricated and assembled by Judie and Philippa.
